PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

From an existing toy to your own brand

How to decide between a packaging update, an OEM brief and a wider ODM development project.

Describe the change before naming the cooperation model

Buyers use OEM and ODM differently, so the label alone is not a complete brief. Describe the product, what already exists and what you want changed. A packaging refresh, an accessory adjustment and a new engineered toy involve different work.

Route one: identity and packaging

Start with an existing product. Review logo placement, colour availability, box artwork, inserts and language. Confirm the minimum order quantity for each custom element and request an approval sample or artwork proof as appropriate.

Route two: product adaptation

List the requested changes and ask which can be made with existing parts or tooling. Confirm engineering implications, sample stages and the effect on existing documentation. Treat exclusivity and ownership as explicit commercial discussions.

Route three: a wider development project

For a new concept, agree the development deliverables, prototype stages, tooling responsibilities, project fees and ownership terms. Allow separate time for design review, sampling, evaluation and production preparation.

Keep a single approved specification

Connect product photos, artwork versions, colour references, accessory lists and packaging details to the approved order. Record changes after approval and revisit price or schedule when the scope changes. The clearest project is the one where buyer and supplier are working from the same brief.
